Going Electric: Top 5 Benefits of Electric Forklifts

Alex Kirkup-Lee • Apr 25, 2022

Whilst diesel and LPG forklifts have long been the most popular and preferred choice, it is likely you have noticed the dramatic shift towards electric trucks.

With the world becoming more environmentally conscious by the day, and fuel prices on the rise, the popularity of these trucks is only going one way! With powerful motors and increased efficiency, as well as cost and maintenance benefits, here are our top reasons why you should go electric:

1. Tough on Performance

With advanced technology, electric forklifts are incredibly tough on performance, with enhanced braking technology and tighter controls and handling, whilst being easier to drive. Electric trucks are suitable for both indoor and outdoor use and can lift large weight loads and a wide range of materials, making them suitable for every industry.

2. Lower Operating Costs

Although it may not seem like it from the upfront cost, the fact that electric trucks don’t require any fuel means the running costs are likely to be significantly cheaper than LPG or diesel vehicles. Fewer moving parts also means electric forklifts have increased reliability and reduced chance of breaking down.

3. Huge Maintenance Benefits

As we touched on earlier, electric forklifts are much easier to maintain than LPG or diesel forklifts. Fewer mechanical components mean that annual maintenance usually costs less, and you can usually leave longer intervals between maintenance. This has a positive impact on the number of operation hours, with fewer hours lost due to servicing and maintenance and therefore making electric trucks highly productive. As long as the battery is regularly cleaned and serviced, this forklift will run for a very long time.

4. Helps Reduce Work-Based Noise

The only noise heard from an electric truck is the tyres and perhaps the alarm to alert other workers of the forklift reversing. Electric trucks have no loud or persistent noises, which are not only distracting but can cause hearing issues and danger to the safety of other workers. This reduced noise is particularly positive for small warehouses, where sound can echo throughout. With the reduced noise of an electric truck, the driver is able to hear the warehouse operative who may be instructing what direction the forklift needs to go, making it much safer and more efficient for the team to work together.

5. Zero Carbon Emissions

It’s no secret that we are living through unprecedented times when it comes to the future of our planet. Looking for low emission solutions has become a priority for both home and work environments. By going electric, you will be helping to reduce carbon emissions. This also makes it better for the person operating the vehicle, as the truck doesn’t emit any fumes. This also means that the doors of the warehouse do not need to be open to allow for ventilation, and therefore means you can save on warehouse heating and ventilation solutions.

When it comes to buying an electric forklift, we have a wide range of both new and used trucks such as the Mitsubishi EDIA range and Combilift CBE Series.
